Shakira will receive the Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards next month. The Colombian superstar is being recognized as a "global force."

Shakira is set to receive the Video Vanguard Award during the MTV Video Music Awards in the next month. Beyonce, Nicki minaj, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Missy Elliott were among the previous recipients.

She will also perform at the VMAs for the first time since 17 years.

Colombian singer, Yara has won four VMAs in her career. She began with the International Viewer’s Choice Award (Latin America North), back in 2000.

She is up for four awards this year: Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration (for “XQG,” with Karol G), and two nominations in the Latin category – for the same Karol G collaboration, and her solo single “Acrostico.”

“Shakira continues to inspire and influence the masses through her unique musical prowess. Bruce Gillmer, Paramount+’s chief content officer for music and president of music talent, programming, and events, said that Shakira is a trailblazer and a leader in the field of Latin music. Her massive impact on the music landscape will last a long time as she continues creating and entertaining at the highest levels.

Taylor Swift is the top nominee for 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. She is the leader with eight nominations — seven for her ‘Anti-Hero’ music video as well as a nod to the artist of year category. SZA follows closely behind, with six.

The VMAs are being held on the 12th of September at Newark’s Prudential Center.
