Police said that a 9-year old boy and a woman aged 20 were both shot during a fight outside a house in a suburban just south of Chicago.
According to the police, officers responded to a call about a shooting at Matteson around 6 pm on Thursday.

A 911 caller informed dispatchers that their grandson was shot. Police told reporters in a press conference that the boy died from a gunshot to his abdomen.
The wounds of the woman were not deemed life-threatening. The police did not provide any further information about the shooting.
In a shooting in Matteson (Illinois), a 9-year old boy died and a woman aged 20 was injured.
According to WMAQ , the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the boy as Omuiri Brown Jones.
Denise Jones, the boy’s grandma, told WBBM TV that her granddaughter got into a fight at school with another girl. The girl who was involved in the fight and her friends drove to Jones’ house.

Jones reported that the girls fought in the street and a teenager who was with them began to shoot.
She described her grandson, who she said was a dancer and honor roll student. She said that the boy was staying with Jones since his mother had moved to Chicago.

Jones said that “His mother moved out, and he stayed in this area because he did not want to go to Chicago because he was scared of being shot.”
