Officials from the airline and government said that a passenger on an Asiana Airlines plane opened a window before landing safely in a South Korean Airport Friday.

Transport Ministry reported that some people aboard tried to prevent the person opening the door, but it was ultimately opened partially.

Jeju, the southern island, was the departure point for the plane carrying 194 passengers. It was headed to Daegu in the southeast. The normal flight time is about an hour. It was not immediately revealed how long the plane’s door had been open.

The airline reported that police detained the person who opened the door but was not identified. The motive of the incident was not immediately clear.

There were also teenage athletes, who planned to compete in track and field events in Ulsan.

Asiana officials and Transport Ministry officials confirmed that the incident was frightening for some passengers, but no injuries were reported. However, some passengers had to be evaluated at a local hospital.
