In January 1987, Stanford University hosted the most famous academic event in the culture wars. It was held on Martin Luther King Day. Jesse Jackson visited The Farm to deliver a Rainbow Coalition speech. Then, 500 students marched across campus chanting “Hey, hey, ho ho! Western Civ must go!”
This is the common version of Jackson’s rousing students to protest against multiculturalism. This event is remembered as a sign of the university’s decline. However, this is not the truth.
