Suburban Chicago Police fatally shoot a driver who reached for a firearm and woke up.

An initially unresponsive motorist in Blue Island, Illinois, was shot and killed by police after reaching for a firearm in his passenger seat upon regaining consciousness.

According to police, a suburban Chicago officer fatally shot an innocent motorist in the early hours of Thursday morning after being dispatched to investigate a suspicious car.

Police in Blue Island, a city in Cook County, responded to a 911 caller at 1:35 am who reported that the driver-side door of the vehicle was ajar. The man in the driver seat was not responding.

Officers found a firearm on the passenger’s seat when they arrived.

Blue Island police killed a driver who had reached for his gun in the passenger seat after being woken up.

Additional officers were called and were able wake up the driver who then reached for the passenger’s seat. This prompted an officer to fire a single round.

The statement stated that the man was hit in the torso and later declared dead in a hospital located in Oak Lawn.

The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force investigates the shooting.

Blue Island Police said that they had not released the names of the motorist who died and the officer shot him, because the shooting is still under investigation.
