Taylor Swift’s Ice Spice collaboration raises eyebrows in the wake of Matty Healy’s backlash

Some of Taylor Swift’s Black fans have renewed their frustration over the singer’s connection to The 1975 frontman Matty Healy after Swift announced a collaboration with rapper Ice Spice.

After Swift announced her collaboration with rapper Ice Spice, some of Taylor Swift’s Black Fans have expressed their displeasure over Swift’s relationship to The 1975’s Matty Healy.

Swift’s intentions were questioned by some fans, even though they were thrilled about the remixed version of “Midnights”, which will feature Ice Spice as the first Black female on one Swift song.

Healy was accused of racist behavior earlier this year when he joined in with jokes about Ice Spice and laughed at them while a guest on an audio podcast. Swift and Healy haven’t confirmed their relationship but they have been spotted together. Healy was also photographed at a number of Eras Tour concerts.

Some said that Swift’s collaboration was a calculated PR stunt, given the connection. Some said that the Ice Spice collaboration had been in the works for a long time, but were disappointed when Swift did not respond to Healy’s comments.

“I do not believe that Matty is a demon-conservative,” Brooke Giles said, a 27-year old Swiftie who calls herself a Swiftie fervent. Swift isn’t commenting. She’s instead finding new ways to profit from controversy.

The three artists’ representatives did not respond immediately to a comment request on Thursday.

Healy’s comments were made on an episode of “The Adam Friedland show” in February. Healy is a white man and can be heard laughing when Nick Mullen and Friedland make jokes about Ice Spice (Ice Spice, a Dominican-Nigerian), who are both hosts.

He appeared to laugh when he saw the co-hosts imitating Japanese accents and Hawaiian accents.

The podcast was removed from Apple and Spotify.

In April, Healy apologized to Ice Spice for hiscomments while performing at Auckland, New Zealand.

He said, “I never intended to hurt anyone.” “I’m so sorry if you’ve been offended and I apologize to Ice Spice. Not because I was annoyed when my jokes were misinterpreted, but rather I didn’t want Ice Spice thinking I was a d—. Ice Spice, I love you. I’m sorry. I don’t wish for anything to be misconstrued. I don’t care if I’m a little joker, but I’m not looking to be perceived in a mean way.

Healy Swift and Ice Spice are not commenting on the controversy.

Swift announced on Wednesday that she was a “massive Ice Spice fan”, adding, “after getting acquainted with her, I can confirm she is THE ONE you should watch.”

Ice Spice replied to a tweet with “Sweetest Person Ever Thank You Sm”.

Ice Spice shared her love for The 1975 with Elle in an interview from Jan. Elle conducted a video interview on 25 January.

Social media has been awash with Swift and Healy discussions for days.

tweeted: “I love Taylor Swift as much as anyone else, but this PR move is so interesting.”

Fans have been using the hashtag #SpeakUpNow in order to express their displeasure over Swift’s association Healy. The hashtag was used in a letter that was widely “liked”, and shared, on Twitter.

The fan wrote: “Your silence has a tremendous amount of power, and your voice is powerful.” We urge you to take a moment and reflect on your own behavior and that of your friends and associates.

Swift fans, like Mike Mason (24), are still angry about Healy’s remarks.

Mason wrote to NBC News that he was “honestly disgusted and furious” when he saw the remarks. It was completely racist and uncalled-for, and I do not believe his apology to be genuine.

This was a racist act and not acceptable.

Swifties have defended Healy amid the debate, noting his past advocacy for progressive causes, including women’s rights.

Franchesca Ramsden, a comedian and activist, suggested that Swift’s defense of Healy may be due to a parasocial relationship – the attachment fans feel towards a public figure – especially if they are personable.

Fans of the artist are known to intentionally leave clues in her videos, lyrics, and social media so that they can analyze and decipher them.

Ramsey , who tweeted, said: “My take is that a significant percentage of Taylor’s audience feel extreme loyalty to Taylor bc she has cultivated a parasocial relationship with them throughout her entire career.” “Showing loyalty to her on social networks is a way of feigning closeness and a chance to be picked/noticed” by her.

Some people believe that Swift’s participation in the controversy is an example of her privilege and white-centric feminist ideology.

Giles replied, “I don’t think she’s a horrible, awful person.” “I like to believe that this is well established. “But I think she’s very careless with her privilege.”

Some people are disappointed that has overshadowed Ice Spice.

Ava Brown, 24, a Swift fan for many years, finds Healy’s discourse “frustrating.”

“… “A lot of people defend the things he says by saying, ‘Oh he was only making a joke’ or, “Oh, this is performance art,” she said.

Brown, who attended an Eras Tour show recently, says that the discussion around Healy can be annoying to a certain degree because it takes away from the enjoyment of Swift’s songs.

She said, “I am a big fan of Taylor Swift.” I don’t even know if what he said was true or not. “I think that part of the frustration is because I want to just listen to her music and be a fan.”
