Authorities said that two young boys were playing in the backyard with kittens when shots rang at a house in Eastern Pennsylvania. Both children died, as did a young male who appeared to be the target.
Police are looking for a third suspect. An adult and an adolescent have both been charged with the shooting.
Pier Hess Graf, Lebanon County’s District Attorney, said that Alex Torres Santos and a 16 year old male were each charged with three counts criminal homicide. The two also face charges of aggravated assault and conspiracy, as well as weapons offenses, in relation to the shooting that occurred in Lebanon on Tuesday. Lebanon is a small town in an agricultural area about 70 miles north-west of Philadelphia.
Authorities said that a third male was still on the run and would likely face charges similar to those in this case. Santos, who was under house arrest on several charges unrelated to the shooting, was wearing an ankle-monitor at the time.
Authorities said that the violence was caused by “an earlier argument”, but did not provide any further details.
Authorities said that the shooters appeared to have targeted Joshua Lugo Perez, 19, while Jesus Perez Salome, 8, and Sebastian Perez Salome, 9, were both in a backyard of the home. The three victims all lived in the same house, but Lugo Perez was not related.
The boy was declared dead on the spot. Both his older brother and Lugo Perez died in hospitals a few hours later.
Authorities said that a 33-year old neighbor, who was injured by a stray gunshot, underwent surgery. He is still hospitalized but should recover.
Lebanon Police chief Bret Fisher reported that officers were dispatched to the house shortly after 10 pm on Tuesday following a report of gunshots.
Santos was arrested by a SWAT team from Lebanon County on Wednesday at his apartment. Authorities stated that he tried to flee from the residence, but was caught there. The teenage suspect was then arrested in a nearby apartment as he tried to hide. Authorities said that ammunition and multiple firearms had been found in the apartment where Santos, a teenage suspect, was arrested.
Graf, Graf, district attorney said that a decision on whether to execute the suspects has yet to be made. It was not clear on Thursday whether either suspect had retained an lawyer.
