According to the state Department of Homeland Security, the cause of the northern Indiana house burning that resulted in the deaths of a trooper and her child has been ruled undetermined.
After a complete fire at their Monticello home, Trooper Stephanie Thompson and Mya Thompson both died on February 17, 2017.
According to the agency, investigators from the department and engineers from federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives examined the scene.

The department stated that the house was a total loss and no cause or origin could be determined.
Sgt. Thompson was a veteran of the State Police for 23 years and the wife White Circuit Judge Jason Thompson.
A house fire in northern Indiana claimed the lives of an Indiana state trooper, her daughter and a police officer. It is not known what caused the fire.

Monticello police responded to the fire at 2:20 a.m. on Thursday. They found the house completely engulfed, according to State Police.
The home is about 30 miles north from Lafayette, at Lake Shafer in Monticello.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office and state police.
