THE CN-END? Ratings Continue Downward Spiral, Newsmax Beats CNN in Prime Time

According to a report from Mediaite, CNN’s Friday night prime-time ratings are in rough shape —even dropping below conservative news network Newsmax.

From Mediaite:

CNN prime time dropped on Friday to 335,000 average total viewers from 8 to 11 p.m, coming below right-wing channel Newsmax, which scored 357,000 average prime time viewers.

The ratings-beleaguered network landed in fourth place in prime time, also behind Fox News and MSNBC, which averaged 1.44 million and 1.08 million total average viewers in prime time — respectively.

After 8 p.m. on Friday night, no CNN show rated above 300,000 viewers and Newsmax beat the network from 8 to p.m. Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace at 10 p.m. marked its lowest-rated hour since it launched on the network and dropped 25 percent since its Friday debut.

CNN did see some ratings success with its town hall event featuring former President and 2024 candidate Donald Trump —but left-wingers, including some of the network’s own anchors, criticized the choice to “platform” Trump.

CNN CEO Chris Licht defended his decision, saying “I absolutely, unequivocally believe America was served very well by what we did … People woke up, and they know what the stakes are in this election in a way that they didn’t the day before. And if someone was going to ask tough questions and have that messy conversation, it damn well should be on CNN.”
