University of Wisconsin System President Jay Rothman’s plan to raise tuition, fees, and room and board next year would drive up student expenses by as high as 5.4%, according to an analysis that was released Friday.
Rothman had earlier announced that he would request a 5% tuition hike from the Board of Regents. According to the new analysis, Rothman’s plan includes increasing tuition and fees for undergraduate students as well as raising costs for room and board.
The analysis also includes campus-by-campus breakdowns of the plan’s effect.
The total cost of undergraduates in Wisconsin will increase next year by anywhere from 3% to 5.4% at UW–Madison. UW–Milwaukee residents would experience a 3.7% rise, UW–La Crosse students would experience a 4.6% increase, and UW–Whitewater students would experience a 4.8% increment.
The University of Wisconsin could raise tuitions for some students by as much as 5.4% if it enacted a budget.
Students from other states would see tuition increases of anywhere from 2% to 5.4% at UW–Eau Claire for undergraduates. UW-Madison undergraduates from out-of-state would see a 3.3% tuition increase. The total cost calculation for undergraduates from out-of-state was not included in the analysis.
The cost of enrolling in engineering and nursing programs, as well as computer science and cybersecurity courses, across all 13 four-year campuses, would vary depending on which school you choose.
