Thunderstorms and severe weather threaten Plains, Mississippi Valley

Severe weather will bring threats across a wide section of the U.S. this week, including tornadoes and heavy rain. Storms are set to impact the Plains and Mississippi Valley.

Over the next few weeks, the Mississippi Valley and the southern and central Plains will be threatened by several days of severe thunderstorms.

A multiple-day weather threat

A large part of the country could be affected by heavy rains, hailstones, damaging winds and tornadoes, as well as the possibility of flooding.

Forecast for rain through Sunday in eastern U.S.

temperatures are expected to rise above the average before this cold front and fuel these storms.

The Spring Temperature Swing

Very cold air behind the front will create the conditions for snow to fall from the Rockies down to the Great Lakes.

The northern U.S. is still expected to have snow through Saturday.
