Kai Cenat: Who is he?

The Bronx native, who now resides in Atlanta, is one of the highest-subscribed streams of all time.

Cenat began his social media career in 2018, posting reaction videos, vlogs, and skits on YouTube. His Twitch account now has more than 6 million followers.

Cenat’s Twitch Live streams show him talking to “chat”, his viewers, and gaming. He also reacts strongly to viral videos and new music releases.

Cenat streamed non-stop 24/7 for 30 consecutive days in February.

His humorous and viral social media stunts have made him popular among Black celebrities in the hip-hop community. Rappers such as Ice Spice, Lil Baby and 21 Savage streamed their music with Cenat.

This rising social media star also popularized the term “rizz”, or the ability to flirt or seduce others.

Diverse streaming options

He joined AMP in 2021. AMP is a collective that includes other Black content producers. Their channel takes familiar concepts and gives them a wild twist. Examples include a rap-cypher version of “Dancing with the Stars,” a dating video based on “The Bachelorette,” or a video challenge based on “Fear Factor.”

Cenat spoke about the lack of diversity within the streaming industry in an interview with complex.

He said, “There are a few Black streamers. They’re just not as big as white streamers,” in his profile. “With me personally I was bringing an insane light to the culture, by being on stage and dominating, and doing all I had to do.”

Clashes with Twitch

He has had a number of clashes with Twitch in the past, even though he’s one of the more established stars on the platform. Five times he was temporarily banned from the platform for various reasons, including showing explicit content or passing out during a stream after eating edible marijuana.

Cenat has continued to stream despite his disagreement with Twitch at the time. He had threatened to leave the platform. Cenat’s rise has led him to win awards such as “Streamer of the year” at the 12th Streamy Award and the 2023 Streamy Awards.

In an interview with Complex, he thanked his loyal fans.

He said, “I have known people who watched me in my chat two years ago. They still watch me and get entertained today.”

“As long I can entertain and make people happy, it’s the greatest thing.”
