Woman killed after being hit by police escort of U.K. royal

The Duchess of Edinburgh expressed her condolences Wednesday after the death of an 81-year-old woman who was struck by a motorcycle that was part of the U.K. royal’s police escort.

The Duchess expressed her condolences on Wednesday following the death of a 81-year old woman who was killed by a motorcycle belonging to the U.K. royal’s police escort.

Sophie, the wife to Prince Edward, has expressed her condolences for the death Helen Holland who was killed at an intersection in West London on May 10.

Buckingham Palace stated that “the Duchess is deeply saddened by the news of Helen Holland’s death.” Her Royal Highness extends her deepest sympathies and condolences to Ms Holland’s entire family.

Martin Holland, Holland’s son told the BBC his mother had died from “multiple fractures and massive injuries” after visiting her sister in London. Holland is originally from Essex.

Her son stated that she had fought for her life “for nearly two weeks… but irreversible brain damage finally ended the fight today.”

The Independent Office for Police Conduct investigates the accident.
