Woman killed in Glacier National Park, Montana

A Kansas woman died at Montana’s Glacier National Park on Monday after falling into a river and being swept into a gorge, park officials said.

Park officials reported that a Kansas woman died in Montana’s Glacier National Park after she fell into a river, was swept down a canyon and drowned.

In a statement released Tuesday, the woman’s 28-year-old identity was not revealed.

The National Park Service reported that she fell Monday afternoon from a rocky ledge and into Avalanche Creek, where she was swept down into a canyon.

It said that bystanders spotted her in the water and went in to rescue her. The CPR was started and 911 called, but the woman died.

The park service issued a statement in which it expressed its deepest condolences and asked that the public respect the privacy of the family members and friends.
