Artificial Intelligence was a hit with both consumers and regulators in 2023. Experts believe that the technology’s development will continue to grow in 2024.

Christopher Alexander, Chief Analytics Officer of Pioneer Development Group told Fox News Digital that AI is still years away from being as autonomous as people imagine.

Alexander’s comments follow a notable leap in AI tool development that occurred between 2023 and 2024. Popular language learning models (LLMs) such as OpenAI ChatGPT gained huge popularity, and encouraged other tech giants.

A new tech era quietly dawned in 2023

By 2024, artificial intelligence will have new capabilities.

Microsoft is one of the companies that has announced a significant investment in OpenAI for 2023. It also launched its own chatbot, which will be integrated into its Bing platform as well as another AI bot compatible Windows 11. Google, Amazon , and Meta announced AI initiatives early in the year. This set off a new arms-race among tech giants.

Experts believe that the trend could start to emerge in 2024.

Samuel Mangold Lenett, staff writer at The Federalist told Fox News Digital that he expects the momentum from this year to only increase in 2024. “Corporations are on solid ground, startups have learned how to customize AI to fit various niches and the public is realizing that AI technology can be a net benefit in certain critical areas.”

Mangold-Lenett believes that AI, like all other technologies, will be much more customized to the individual user in 2024.

Mangold-Lenett stated, “I anticipate this year will see more niche AI companies and customizations pop up as massive LLMs continue aggregating and processing vast amounts of data.” Hardware will also likely be increasingly integrated with AI, such as smartphone digital assistants. We’re still waiting for robotics to catch-up, and I don’t think an AGI is going to be available.

Phil Siegel, founder of the Center for Advanced Preparedness and Threat Response Simulation, (CAPTRS), expressed a similar sentiment. He told Fox News Digital that AI custom models might “explode” by 2024.

Siegel stated that “this will be the year when corporations realize that they have a huge amount of data and can build more custom models in order to improve processes and efficiency.” The use of LLMs is expected to increase, but it may disappoint in some pockets. Things like sales and marketing will boom. Also tech development and customer service will be a big hit. In 2024, custom-made models for companies will be used more than ever before.

Experts have noted that, despite the anticipation of useful AI developments by 2024, such changes must be accompanied by realistic regulations and expectations for the new booming industry.

STUDY FINDINGS: “SENSE OF URGENCE”

Experts believe that while the first steps to regulate the AI industry were taken in 2023 (including a Biden Administration agreement with leading tech firms to develop AI tools safely in July, and an executive order on AI safety signed by president Biden) there will be more to do in 2024.

Alexander stated, “I think it’s crucial that we start creating a framework for social policy that incorporates AI in those jobs most likely to be eliminated the quickest.”

Aiden Buzzetti of the Bull Moose Project shared similar thoughts. He noted that the U.S. would have to compete with China in AI development, while building on 2023’s existing regulatory framework.

Buzzetti, a Fox News Digital reporter, said that “startups are using LLM models to spread AI relationship building, write essays, and develop internal company tools. All of these things could replace parts of the life humans have become accustomed to.” The Biden executive order is now shaping the regulation thresholds. They are still in development but have been shaped by Buzzetti. All policy proposals will be competing with these documents in terms of safety standards and best practice.
