A federal judge in New York has ordered the unsealing of nearly 200 names previously redacted from court papers in a suit against Jeffrey Epstein’s former girlfriend and accomplice Ghislaine Maxiwell.
U.S. district judge Loretta Preska released a 51-page ruling explaining her reasons for whether or not to continue redacting the names of approximately 180 John and Jane Does, giving some clues about who they could be.
Some names had been known to the public in other ways, despite being withheld during the lawsuit. Epstein was known to many. Other names on the list are his alleged victims who were taken to a private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, or his mansions located in New York City and Florida.
Virginia Giuffre sued Maxwell, an Epstein accuser, who claimed he had trafficked her in the early 2000s as a child. In 2017, the parties reached a settlement outside of court. Epstein was close to many influential people, including politicians such as former presidents and premiers, Hollywood stars, academics, and Prince Andrew of the United Kingdom, who Giuffre sued.

Preska wrote that Doe 005 had “waived the right to anonymity…and gave an interview using their first and last name,” Preska added, with a link 2022 DailyMail interview with Epstein accuser Carolyn Andriano.

Doe 044
Doe 044 is an Epstein accuser, according to a judge who linked to a NBC News interview in 2019 with British actress Anouska de Georgiou. She appeared in court two weeks before the interview, but prior to it.

The judge linked to other articles that featured interviews with Epstein’s former employees, and he noted there was no need to protect names of those who were publicly discussed in Maxwell’s sex-trafficking trial at criminal court.
Doe 018
According to the judge Doe 018 was a law enforcement officer and had been identified previously in court documents and a public police report.
According to the FBI, Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in 2019 while waiting for his trial on sex-trafficking charges. There are still questions about his crimes.

Preska wrote that Doe 082 was “widely known” for his ties with Epstein and Maxwell. This person had also been named as a defendant in several Epstein-related cases. The same goes for Does 095, 0, 099 120, 122 136,143,157.

Doe 067 has been named in court proceedings and will have their documents unlocked.

Preska wrote: “During the criminal case, one of named victims testified Plaintiff and this person, who were both then over 18 years old, recruited him or her to provide Epstein with massages at the age 14.”
Giuffre’s accusations against Maxwell, Prince Andrew and others are not covered by the Epstein-related suits. The U.S. Virgin Islands government sued JPMorgan Chase claiming that the bank assisted Epstein’s crimes.

This lawsuit revealed Epstein’s connections with Barclays CEO Jes Stapley, an ex-JPMorgan banker that resigned in 2021.

The bank was also accused of knowing about Epstein’s ties with French model Jean Luc Brunel who, like Epstein died in prison awaiting trial for sex-trafficking charges.
A second Epstein-related suit alleges that billionaire Leon Black – who resigned from his position as CEO of Apollo Global Management in the year 2021 – assaulted an autistic 16-year old at Epstein’s New York City home.

Preska described Doe 58 as a “classic outsider”, with no connection to Epstein or Maxwell.
