The U.S. Justice Department announced that a New Jersey arrested in Kenya was charged with trying to aid militant Islamist al Shabaab. They claim he had been motivated to commit violence by Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack against Israel.

The arrest coincides with an increase in antisemitism, Islamophobia and other incidents in response to the Israel-Gaza conflict that have increased the terror threat level in the United States.

Karrem Nasr was arrested in Nairobi, Kenya, on December 14th and brought back to the United States, according to a Justice Department statement released on Friday.
