Chicago’s first murder of the new year occurred just moments after the start of New Year’s Day. The Windy City is still experiencing an increase in violent crimes.

The Chicago Police Department informed Fox News that their officers responded to reports about a shooting early on Monday morning in the 7000-block of South Wabash Avenue. A 53-year old man was “multiple times” shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

According FOX 32 Chicago, there were at least 19 bullets holes at the scene.

The Chicago Police Department released a statement that read: “Police responded after a report of a shooting and found three victims in a home who had been shot by gunfire.”

Nearly 19 bullet holes were found at the scene.

The authorities then discovered a 49-year old female victim who had a gunshot to the head. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where she is in critical condition.

A 48-year-old female victim was also found with an injured arm. She was taken to UChicago Medicine and is in a stable condition.

Neighbors informed FOX 32 of the shooting but were afraid to speak on camera. (FOX 32 Chicago).

In a police statement, they said that “further investigation shows the gunfire was fired from the outside and hit the victims through the window.” “There are no arrests and Area One Detectives continue to investigate.”

The neighbors told FOX32 that the shooting was targeted, but refused to be interviewed by camera out of safety concerns.
