Officials said that police were investigating a two-vehicle crash in Rochester, New York early on New Year’s Day. The accident killed two and injured five people.

In a press release, said that the crash occurred shortly before 1 am on Monday while officers were directing traffic following a concert at the Kodak Center theatre complex.

The statement stated that a Ford Expedition hit a Mitsubishi Outlander and both vehicles went “through a pedestrian group in the crosswalk”.

The collision resulted in an explosion, which caused a large fire that took more than an hour for the firefighters to put out.

The police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed two people in Rochester, New York and injured five more.

The police statement stated that once the fires had been extinguished, firefighters found “at least 12 gasoline canisters” in and around the Expedition. The police then brought in an arson squad and alerted to the FBI.

According to the police, two passengers of the Outlander died and the driver sustained non-life threatening injuries. The Expedition’s driver was hospitalized for critical injuries. Three pedestrians were taken to hospital, including one in critical condition.

The investigators have asked anyone with any information or witnesses to contact the police.

Rochester is located about 340 miles north of Manhattan.
