Authorities said that a vehicle that fled a suburban Madison traffic stop and crashed overnight killed all three passengers.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation reported that Monona Police tried to stop a “suspicious vehicle” around 9 p.m. on Monday but the driver fled.

DCI released a press release stating that after a Dane County deputy used a tire deflation system, the vehicle crashed into Cottage Grove, and all three people inside died on the spot.

The statement of the agency did not go into detail about the crash’s circumstances, such as whether the driver lost control when he ran over the device and swerved in order to avoid it or had lost his balance after running over it.

On Monday, a fleeing suspect’s vehicle crashed in Dane County Wisconsin killing the three people who were inside.

DCI did no respond immediately to The Associated Press’s messages on Tuesday asking about the circumstances surrounding the accident and why Monona Police had deemed the car “suspicious.”

The AP left a message with the Dane County Medical Examiner, asking if the three victims of the crash had been identified.

In a press release, Monona Police chief Brian Chaney stated that he had requested assistance from DCI and Wisconsin State Patrol to investigate the fatal pursuit and crash.

While DCI and the Wisconsin State Patrol investigate, the officers have been placed in administrative duty.

DCI has said that it will hand over its findings to Dane County district attorney when the investigation is complete.
