A man shot a woman and injured her before stealing the car under threat of gunfire and engaging in a firefight with two police officers.

In a press release, police union president Robert Cavaco said: “We pray for the complete and rapid recovery of our injured brother who sacrificed their lives today to protect lives and safety of public.”
Authorities said that a man from Hawaii shot a woman and injured her, then stole a vehicle at gunpoint. He was killed later in a shootout between him and police officers in which two officers were wounded.
Honolulu Police chief Arthur “Joe Logan” said that police began searching for the suspect Monday on New Year’s Day after a woman reported that he had shot her. Logan said that the man fired at officers in three locations before he was shot near University of Hawaii’s main Campus , Honolulu at 4 p.m.

The police chief confirmed that the man died in a hospital after being taken there. Monday, two wounded officers had surgery. The condition of the two officers was not immediately known on Tuesday.
A Hawaii police officer and civilian were killed after a man opened fire on them.
In a Monday statement, Robert Cavaco said that the officers were “shot while trying to apprehend an attempted murder suspect who was dangerous.” “We pray for a full and speedy recovery of our brothers who sacrificed their safety and risked everything to protect lives and the safety of the public today.”
Logan added that a fourth man had been injured by a Police vehicle. He also said police were trying determine if it was him.
Logan responded that “we just had to concentrate on apprehending this individual.” Logan said that he did not want anyone to try and get involved in the pursuit.

Logan stated that the situation was fluid and moving rapidly from one place to another.
