Ramzan Kadyrov of Chechnya,, a key ally to Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for the executions of family members who are not found of suspected criminals.

At a meeting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Chechen Republic on December 30, Kadyrov informed security officers that family members are eligible to receive punishments for criminal suspects not arrested.

Newsweek translated Kadyrov’s words as: “If we can’t find them, then we’ll stop looking. But we’ll find their family.”

He said, “As has been customary since time immemorial if one of their relatives had done wrong, and the criminal could not be found, then their brother or father would be murdered.”

The comments were reportedly about the plans of the region to ensure public security over the holiday season.

“Our blood feud is going to be paid back very quickly.” If someone kills another and gets away with it, their family will start to resent them,” Kadyrov said.

He said, “It is not possible to renounce a family member until someone in their family has been killed and we have taken the right of blood revenge.”

Kadyrov was appointed by Putin to rule the restless Chechnya region in 2007.

Since the beginning of the invasion, the muslim-majority country has fought with Russia.

Officials reported that Russia launched hypersonic missiles on Ukraine’s two biggest cities Tuesday morning. At least five people were killed and 130 injured. The attack occurs as Moscow’s two-year war nears its milestone.

On the social media platform X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that four civilians had been killed by hypersonic Kinzhal rockets which can fly 10 times faster than sound speed. The missiles struck Ukraine’s largest city Kharkiv and the capital Kyiv.

“As at this moment, 92 injuries have been reported. All of them are receiving help. Unfortunately, four people died. “My condolences to the families and friends of those who have died,” Zelenskyy stated. Five people have died since the original death toll.
