Prosecutors claim that a prominent Honolulu entrepreneur was the leader of a criminal conspiracy in which he funneled drug money through fake businesses, and ordered his minions to torture and murder the best friend of his late son as part a revenge plot.

The Honolulu Civil Beat reports that jury selection began for the federal trial of accused racketeering chief Michael Miske Jr.

The alleged kingpin has been charged with a number of crimes, including murder, kidnapping and assault. Other charges include racketeering fraud, the use of chemical weapons, and distribution cocaine. According to the Honolulu Civil Beat, potential jurors are already concerned about their own safety and that of their families.

In an indictment, the 48-year old is accused of being the mastermind of a criminal enterprise, called the “Miske Enterprise”, from the late 90s to his arrest in July 2020 in connection with the kidnapping of Jonathan Fraser, 21 years old.

Michael Miske Jr. is facing accusations in relation to his alleged extensive criminal network in Honolulu, including murder charges for the death of Jonathan Fraser – his son’s closest friend.

Bloomberg reported that Fraser was the best friend of Miske’s son Caleb Miske. In November 2015, the pair who were racing and car enthusiasts got into a high speed crash. The son of the accused drug kingpin died from his injuries. Miske, despite a police report indicating that Caleb was driving, insisted Fraser was to blame for his son’s death.

Bloomberg reported that Miske appeared to have reconsidered his grudge after he moved Fraser, his girlfriend, and the young widow of his son into their home and gave them a car.

Fraser’s girlfriend, however, reported him missing on July 30th to the Honolulu Police Department. Bloomberg reports that Miske didn’t keep his grudge towards his son’s friend’s best pal a secret. The man’s identity was immediately revealed when the police began their investigation.

The alleged criminal activities of Miske became apparent.

In July 2020, the law enforcement would raid Miske’s house. However, they found no evidence indicating Fraser’s location.

Miske, along with 10 co-defendants, were ultimately indicted.

Miske owned auto, fishing and contracting companies at least since the 1990s. Kama’aina Termite & Pest Control ads for Miske’s extermination company were frequently seen on Oahu. According to his most recent indictment he owned residential properties as well as the glamorous M nightclub which was later renamed Encore.

The indictment stated that the pest control offices were used as “a headquarters for criminal activity, laundering illicit proceeds, and fraudulent ’employment.’ Individuals were ’employed’ to commit acts of violence or fraud on behalf the Miske Enterprise.

The men used a variety of communication methods, including encrypted apps on their phones and face-to-face meetings in order to avoid detection.

Bloomberg reported that someone familiar with Miske’s fishery noted that his boat was making regular trips between Hawaii and California, but it didn’t seem to be carrying much seafood. They speculated that Miske may be transporting other items.

According to the indictment Miske distributed 5 kilograms or more of cocaine. In 2016, Miske’s enterprise is alleged to have moved 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. It is not known how much methamphetamine Miske and his associates allegedly transported.

According to the indictment the group would also target drug operations and rob them, including driving one dealer from the road, and stealing a Walmart Bag filled with $65,000 worth of meth. This was done by tricking another dealer using a fake ID badge that a crew member had obtained on the set of Hawaii Five 0

Bloomberg reported that a dealer who was pistol-whipped by Miske and his underlings during an ambush “went over to Miske’s house to complain”.

Indictment: Among the frauds that prosecutors accuse Miske of, are a cash-payroll scheme, fraudulent change order, phony license, fraudulent fumigation, bank fraud, and even the creation of false documents.

According to the indictment if Miske was arrested, dozens false character assessments, as well as other useful documents, were forgeries and handed to Miske’s lawyer to aid his defense.

Honolulu is a popular destination for travel.

Despite the fact that Miske is facing murder charges for Fraser’s disappearance his body has not been located.

James Borling Salas, a young person associated with members of the organization, told FBI Agents he had seen Fraser during his last, agonizing moments. Borling Salas said that he would distribute Miske’s drugs.

In later interviews, the grandmother of the young informant, a retired corrections officer told the FBI that her grandson admitted to a part in torturing, killing and recording Fraser.

Borling-Salas, who denied any direct involvement in the incident, told agents that Fraser was bound to a desk with zip ties and tape inside an apartment where Borling Salas worked. The man remembered that Fraser’s face was bloodied and that he had seen him repeatedly being kicked in the head.

Borling-Salas said that two of Miske’s cohorts, among them the often-mentioned Lance Bermudez allegedly burned his hands and moved up the body while a tripod-mounted phone recorded the torture.

The man reported to agents that he had seen a large bone sticking out of a large pot in the kitchen. Bermudez, it is alleged, was stirring the pot.

Borling-Salas remembered that there was no smell and that “the water [had] a shade orange-red [that] [Borling Salas] never saw while cooking…[and] flesh started to fall off the bone,” according an affidavit examined by Bloomberg.

Bloomberg reported that Borling-Salas tried to commit suicide soon after the interview and later retract his story.

Bermudez was one of several miscreants allegedly used by Miske to commit murders and other crimes who turned around in recent years and testified against him. Bloomberg reported that he had the contact details of the attorney who was hired to represent Miske, his crew and other criminals tattooed on his forearm.

Documents show that a high-ranking subordinate allegedly told FBI Agents that Miske had ordered five other potential victims to be hit between 2015 and 2016. These attacks never materialized.
