Federal Aviation Administration actively recruits workers with “severe” intellectual disabilities, psychiatric disorders and other mental or physical conditions as part of a Diversity and Inclusion hiring program, which is detailed on the agency’s web site.

The website of the FAA states that “Targeted Disabilities are those disabilities which the Federal Government, as a policy, has identified to be given special attention in recruitment and hire,” They include hearing, sight, missing extremities and partial or complete paralysis.

The initiative is part the FAA’s “Diversity and Inclusion” hiring plan. According to this plan, “diversity plays a vital role in achieving FAA’s mission to ensure safe and efficient travel throughout our nation and beyond.” According to the FAA website, its guidelines for diversity hiring have not been updated since March 23, 2022.

In recent days, all eyes were on the FAA as well as the airline industry after a plug on a Boeing 737 Max 9 blew during a Alaska Airlines Flight on Jan. 5,. After the incident, the FAA has grounded all 737 MAX 9 aircraft and is performing an “extensive” inspection and maintenance.

After the incident, the FAA announced that it would be increasing its oversight over Boeing. This includes auditing Boeing’s 737 Max 9 production line as well as companies who supply parts to the airline maker.

After the incident, social commentators and public figures have accused airlines and airline manufactures of making flying less safe by focusing on diversity, equality, and inclusion initiatives.

Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, wrote last week on X: “Do you really want to fly an airplane that prioritizes DEI hiring above your safety??” “That’s actually happening.”

Matt Walsh, a Daily Wire contributor, wrote an opinion piece last week entitled “The DEI Rot in the Airline Industry is Way Worse than You Think.”

Civil rights groups, for instance, have condemned Musk for his “abhorrent” and “pathetic” tweet.

The FAA claims on its website that the under-representation of people with “severe”, mental and physical disabilities is the largest segment in the federal workforce.

Because diversity is important, FAA supports and participates in many associations, programs and coalitions to accommodate and support employees of diverse backgrounds and communities. The FAA says that “Our people are our strength and we invest in them and value them as such.”

Dr. Stanley Goldfarb is the chairman of Do No Harm, a group of medical professionals, students, and policymakers who work to “protect the health care system from radical, divisive and discriminatory ideologies”. He told Fox News Digital the aviation industry, like the medical field, has an obligation to its passengers.

“The aviation industry is responsible for the safety of travelers, just as health care has responsibility for patient’s safety. When considering candidates for these fields, the importance of these responsibilities is greater than other factors. “People with disabilities who are capable of completing the task successfully should not be discriminated against,” said Goldfarb. He is a retired professor, and former associate dean of curriculum at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Goldfarb stated that identity politics “creates opportunities for oppressed groups” by lowering the standards of entry to these fields, and thus endangering those it is designed to serve. He added that some endeavors do not lend themselves well to identity politics.

Fox News Digital contacted the FAA on Sunday to ask for information about the jobs that people with disabilities could fill at the agency. However, they did not receive any response. On the website, it states that certain managers may hire veterans and disabled people through an “On the Spot Hiring Process” if they submit required documentation.

The FAA also explains that employees with disabilities are entitled to “reasonable accommodations” at work.
