Suspected Gilgo Beach Serial killer Rex Heuermann is expected to make a surprise court appearance Tuesday, just weeks before the next hearing. Investigators from a taskforce dedicated to cracking this case will announce “a significant development”.
Fox News Digital reports that the New York City Architect is expected to be charged with a fourth murder following the unsealing of a new indictment at the 9:30 am hearing.
The Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office announced that the Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force would hold a media conference immediately after the hearing. Speakers will include the DA as well as Sheriff Errol Toulon, Jr., and acting police commissioner Robert Waring.

Heuermann was arrested in July outside his Manhattan office for the murders of Melissa Barthelemy (24), Megan Waterman (22), and Amber Costello (27).
According to prosecutors, hair DNA collected by police from an abandoned pizza box outside Heuermann’s Manhattan office matched the sample found in the burlap bag containing Waterman’s remains.
Tierney stated that Heuermann is the “prime suspect” of investigators in the death of Maureen Brainard Barnes, 25. Her remains were discovered near those found by the other bodies.
As the investigation continued, investigators expected to eventually charge someone.
SUSPECTED GILGO BAY SERIAL KILLER REX HEUERMANN TAKEN OFF JAIL SUICIDE MONITOR, SHERIFF SAYS
In 2010, a woman by the name of Shannan Gilbert called 911 in a panic and then disappeared. The police began searching for her remains and found 10 before finding them. They also recovered the remains of the Gilgo Four, four young women discovered under similar circumstances.
The police now claim that Gilbert’s death is an accident. However, John Ray, the family attorney, disputes this claim.

Heuermann was held in jail without bail since his arrest. He has traded letters with the “Happy Face” serial murderer Keith Jesperson, and briefly was on suicide watch.
Prosecutors said that before his arrest they had found evidence proving he closely followed news about The Gilgo Investigation, and continued to patronize his prey, the alleged sex workers.
Tierney told reporters over the summer that Tierney was “compulsion-searching” pictures of victims. But he wasn’t just looking for pictures of victims. He was also searching for pictures of relatives, sisters, children and their parents.

Heuermann was raised in Massapequa Park. In the 1990s, he bought his childhood home and moved his family there. He filed for divorce soon after his arrest.
The neighbors described him as quiet, unassuming and unassuming. But some got creepy vibes when they saw the home with its unkempt siding, roof flashing that was twisted and the two-by four lumber supporting the front awning.
