Police are searching for a vandal who was caught on video drawing a green Swastika at the Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza, located on Benjamin Franklin Parkway near Philadelphia.
The memorial has called the crime a hate-crime on Facebook.
The memorial described it as “a disgusting antisemitic act that comes amid an alarming spike in antisemitic hatred throughout Philadelphia and the United States more generally.”
FOX29 Philadelphia reported that police responded to the vandalism incident around 2:21 pm on Sunday.

Eszter KUTAS, Director of the Holocaust Remembrance Foundation, told WPVI-TV that “the incident occurred overnight, around 1:30 in the morning.” “A single person approached the site and quickly painted a two by two swastika onto our site. This is the oldest Holocaust Memorial in the United States. It’s no surprise that we are upset by this incident.
CBS News Philadelphia reports that the memorial plaza was constructed in 1964 at 16th Street and Arch Street.

In a post on social media platform X, Andrew Goretsky, Regional Director of Anti-Defamation League Philadelphia, said: “This reprehensible action not only desecrates a memorial to Holocaust victims but also highlights the disturbing increase in antisemitism that is plaguing our local community.” We must work together to eliminate bigotry, unite to fight such hatred and reaffirm our commitment to tolerance.

Police have not yet identified the suspect, but described him wearing a dark jacket with a stripe down the arm and across the chest.
