The NYPD told Fox News Digital that a New York City grandmother who was killed on a subway was trying to resolve a dispute among two other straphangers.
Richard Henderson, 45 was riding the 3 Train in Brooklyn around 8 pm on Sunday, when two passengers got into an argument about loud music. The NYPD reported.
Police said that Henderson had tried to be a peacemaker. However, when he intervened, the straphanger, who was playing music, allegedly took out a firearm and fired. This hit Henderson in the shoulder and back. The shooter’s intent is not clear. It may have been to kill Henderson or the man with whom he was fighting.

Henderson, an Eagles diehard from Sterling Place, Crown Heights, was on his way home after a football-watching social event at the house of a friend. According to the New York Post, one of Henderson’s friends who were with him at the time on the train said that the shooter had also tried to shoot at him.
According to reports, the shooter fled from the Rockway Avenue Subway Station in Brownsville as Henderson’s friend raised the alarm.
About five stops after the train arrived at the Franklin Avenue station, police found Henderson. It’s unclear whether the train stopped at all of the Franklin Avenue stations.
EMS transported Henderson to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He is survived by his wife, two children and three grandchildren.
The investigation is ongoing and there are currently no arrests.
His family told The New York Post that Henderson was a crossing guard for a private Upper West Side school for over a decade.

Jermaine, the 50-year-old brother of the victim, said to the New York Daily News: “We are just shellshocked and trying to make sense out of it.” “My brother wouldn’t harm anybody. He would give his shirt to you. “He would help you.”
He would be the one to offer help in a crisis. He wanted peace and everyone to get along.
Jermaine Henderson told The New York Post his brother “died while helping someone.”
“That’s him! He always interceded, and he always desired peace.”
Jermaine Henderson, a brother of the victim’s family, said that his brother had been married to his wife for over 30 years and was devoted to his family.
They were childhood sweethearts, and now she is distraught. Their children are screaming uncontrollably.
“He was an incredibly hard-working father. He was also a loving man.” He looked after his grandchildren and his children.
Henderson’s brother’s wife and he have been together 30 years.

Students and staff from the Avenues The World School (the private school where Henderson was employed) launched a GoFundMe on Monday for Henderson’s Family. The GoFundMe had raised nearly $40,000 by the time it was published.
The page states: “Richard Henderson, not only was a vigilante at the crosswalks in his school but he was also a protector to those who were lucky enough to have known him.”
Rich was a man of peace, who had never had a disagreement with anyone but lost his own life while trying to settle one. His family, his friends and the community are in shock and grief over this profound loss.
