officials in Alaska respond to a leak in the pipeline on the Point Thomson field, which resulted in an unknown amount of liquid condensate of natural gas.

In an initial report, the state Department of Environmental Conservation stated that the operator, Harvest Alaska LLC indicated the maximum amount of oil that could have been leaked was around 11,550 gallons or 275 barrels. Harvest Alaska is part of Harvest Midstream which is a Hilcorp Energy affiliate.

A leak in a natural gas pipeline has been reported on the North Slope Borough of Alaska located near the Arctic Circle.

The state agency on-scene coordinator directed all questions to Harvest Alaska’s spokesperson Justin Furnace. Justin Furnace released a statement by Andrew Limmer. Regional vice president for Harvest Alaska. Limmer stated that the leak was discovered on Saturday evening and the company immediately took action by shutting the pipeline down and notifying the appropriate federal and state agencies.

Limmer announced that cleanup operations had begun. The Point Thomson field produces liquid natural gas.

The leak’s cause is being investigated. According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, the pipeline was immediately depressurized and shut down after the leak alarm. This prevented any condensate remaining from leaving the pipe.

The incident occurred on the North Slope about 35 miles to the east of Prudhoe Bay.
