Texas Senator Ted Cruz stopped by Wednesday night’s Hannity to react to the news that Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to table the impeachment hearing of failed DHS secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Cruz along with Utah Senator Mike Lee penned an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal this week blasting Schumer over the failure to bring the Mayorkas hearing to the floor.

“The House is going to deliver articles of impeachment early next week and under the Senate rules, when they do so, the Senate moves immediately into an impeachment trial,” Cruz explains.

Cruz highlights that in 17 out of 21 times this has happened in the past, the Senate “convened for a trial” and “heard evidence” — “It’s what the Constitution prescribes,” Cruz stresses.

“Rather than hear any evidence, [Schumer] is tabling it from the outset.”

Mayorkas’ failures at the southern border are evident to anyone with knowledge of the situation; Cruz says Schumer won’t let the hearing happen because he’s protecting vulnerable Senate Democrats.
