Andrew Lloyd Webber, Broadway’s musical icon, revealed Saturday that his oldest son has stomach cancer.

The famed English composer and theatre impresario, Nick, stated that he was “absolutely devastated” about Nick’s health.

He said, “As my family and friends know, he has been fighting stomach cancer for the past 18 months and Nick is currently hospitalized.”

Webber stated that his son was hospitalized and he wasn’t able attend the previews of his new Broadway musical, “Bad Cinderella,” so he may not be able go to the opening night.

“We all pray Nick will turn the corner. Webber stated that Nick is fighting bravely with his indomitable humor, but at this moment my place with him and his family is with Webber.

Webber is best known for Broadway shows such as “Cats” or “The Phantom of the Opera,” and he is an EGOT recipient. According to Webber’s website , Webber “has received an Emmy and four Grammys and an Oscar, and eight Tony Awards,” .

Webber was knighted in 1992 by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to theatre.

His latest musical, “Bad Cinderella,” features a modernized version of Cinderella. The princess is a rebel against the traditional beauty and behavior norms.

Linedy Genao is the show’s lead. This makes her the first Latina to play a leading part in an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
