The first Miami City Commission meeting for the year was adjourned this week, after an almost brawl between two members.

After the two exchanged insults, Commissioner Miguel Gabela jumped out of his chair and walked toward Commissioner Joe Carollo, shouting “You’re lying!” You’re a little, small man!” The meeting’s streamed live.

Carollo leapt up as Gabela approached, but another man ran over and held Gabela at bay to prevent the situation from getting worse.

“You cannot have decorum when believes a man is a gangster,” Carollo replied as they both sat down. “You’re not the only gangster here!” Gabela retorted.

The meeting was adjourned immediately.

Carollo, after the meeting told reporters that Gabela acted like a “thug.”

According to WTVJ-TV, he claimed that “he wants to act like Tony Soprano.” “He blew the cork at me. I am a senior citizen. I won’t let a man hit me in my chair while I am sitting. “Of course, I’m going to stand up.”

Gabela said he did not intend to hit Carollo and that “sometimes you need to stand up to bullies”, according to the station.

He said, “It was not my intention to do any thing.” I apologize if it appeared that way. But the man started calling me a “gangster”. I am not a criminal. “I am a law abiding citizen, a duly-elected commissioner, like him, and he must respect that so the people will respect him.”

According to the Miami Herald he added, “I am just saying that if you are going to fight outside I will go with you.” Carollo is “not a fan of losing and has lost control over this commission.”

According to reports, the argument began after commissioners voted only to extend a city attorney’s contract by five months. Each man was on opposite sides of the issue.
